When the Signal Hill Alumni Choir (SHAC) takes to the stage to present its annual concert this June, it will be the twenty-fifth year of presenting “music that moves” as a choral organisation playing in Trinidad and Tobago and to international audiences.

Founded in 1984, the internationally acclaimed group from Tobago has grown to be a cultural institution and an icon of Tobago’s heritage and T&T culture. SHAC evolved from the Signal Hill Senior Comprehensive School Folk Choir, which dominated the Folk Category of the Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival in 1982 and emerged as undisputed National Junior Folk Champions. Having reigned over the National Music Festival during the 80s, the choir retired from local competition in 1990.

To celebrate its silver anniversary, SHAC will host four concerts in T&T, an award ceremony and dinner, a European tour, as well as other activities in education, sports and culture, and community outreach in Trinidad and Tobago.

The feature event Jubilee! the concert will be presented at Naparima Bowl (Friday 19 June), and at Queen’s Hall (Saturday 20, and Sunday 21, June) .

And again, SHAC enjoys the distinguished patronage of His Excellency, Prof George Maxwell Richards, President of the Republic of T&T. In 2007, when the choir presented the production Voices of Praise and Protest it also was afforded the President’s patronage, as has been the prestigious position enjoyed by the group for many years with the serving Head of State.
